George Shultz Oil Tonalist Landscape Painting on Board

An original oil painting on board of a Tonalist landscape by well-listed American artist George Schultz (Chicago; 1869 – 1934). Portrayed with loose brushstrokes and dabs of color, this impressionistic work features a grassy field populated with trees and a glowing, yet dusky, multi-colored sky. The painting is signed ‘G.F. Schultz’ to the lower right. It is presented in an elaborate gilt wood frame with high-relief foliate moulding. A label from St. Louis Moulding Factory is present to the verso.
George Schultz received some art training at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he also repeatedly showed his work. He is known for his landscape and marine scape paintings, and specialized in watercolor.
Condition
- accretion across painting; wear in frame includes chips throughout moulding, scratches, stains, and finish loss scattered throughout; painting is loose in frame and needs securing.
