Hand-Knotted Iraqi Kurdish Carpet Runner
Item Details
A hand-knotted Iraqi Kurdish carpet runner. This wool rug is rendered in a palette of scarlet, cerulean, pale taupe, and caramel, with black highlighting. It begins with a vertical row of seven memling-kaikalak medallions, which are grounded in taupe and edged in cerulean. The medallions rest on a scarlet field, flanked on either side by partial stepped medallions. Framing the field is a main border featuring checkered grids alterating with diamond motifs over taupe. Selvedges are overcast in scarlet, the rug finishing at each end with ivory cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
