"Psiloceras Planorbis" Specimen

Item Details

A Psiloceras planorbis specimen. This two dimensional compressed specimen of the coiled ammonoid Psiloceras planorbis displays preserved iridescent shell material preserved. The specimen is labeled as being collected from the Lower Lias on England, an obsolete term which corresponds to the lower Hettangian which is the basal unit of the Jurassic Period. The label lists the age of the specimen as 135 mya (million years ago) but this is erroneous since the Hettangian ranges from 199.6 to 196.5 mya.
