Item Details
A collection of Russian matryoshka nesting dolls. This collection includes two eight-piece sets. The first set is in an elaborate folkish style with traditional Russian objects, including a rural church, a platter of bread with salt, and village scenes; it is signed ‘Made by A. Werkner’ in Cyrillic to the verso and dated 1989, Moscow. The second set is in a simple Vyatka-like style; each doll depicts a Slavic woman in a traditional headscarf with rosy cheeks. They are labeled in Cyrillic to the verso ‘Souvenir matryoshka Aivika, made in Yoshkar-Ola.’
