1901 Maurice Freeman Sterling Silver Trinket Box and Sterling Sugar Spoon

A pairing of sterling silver items. The pairing includes a 1901 sterling silver and mother of pearl trinket box by Maurice Freeman of London. The box features a rectangular shape with a mother of pearl lid featuring engraved geometric designs. The box is marked to the body and lid with the maker’s mark for the Maurice Freeman, the lion passant, and the date letter for 1901; the hallmark for London is included on the bottom portion of the box, but not the lid. This box is presented with a sterling silver sugar shovel by William Gale & Sons of New York. The sugar shovel features a shovel shaped bowl, rounded shoulders to a narrow stem with a broad fiddle handle. The shovel is marked to the underside with the maker’s mark for William Gale & Sons.
