Vintage Hand-Knotted Persian Heriz Area Rug

A vintage hand-knotted Persian Heriz area rug. This wool rug presents a stepped cruciformed central medallion with palmette pendants in hues of green, slate, pink, ecru, burgundy and goldenrod in a serpentine edged lozenge filled with arabesque forms on burgundy field. Compound spandrels feature a peony with flower and vine motif on an ecru and green ground. Minor meandering daisy border leads to unresolved major border in the turtle motif. The area rug finishes in a indigo overcast selvedge and a brief weft fringe. This rug is unmarked.
