1862 Civil War Letter and 1865 Robert Patterson Signed Book "Campaign of 1861"

An 1862 letter and a signed book. This clothbound hardcover edition of A Narrative of the Campaign of the Valley of the Shenandoah by Union major general Robert Patterson (Philadelphia: Sherman & Co., 1865) in inscribed in black ink to the half-title page, ‘For… D. Jessup… Jr., First City Troop With the respectful Compliments of R. Patterson.’ Included with the book are a hand-addressed envelope with a three-cent Washington stamp and a Steubenville, Ohio postmark, as well as a two-sheet handwritten letter dated July 11, 1862 from Steubenville. The letter includes a reference to meeting ‘Mr. and Mrs. Patterson’ at a fourth-of-July party.
