David Walker Oil on Canvas "Bound Figure"

Item Details

An original oil painting on canvas by American artist David Walker titled Bound Figure. This Surrealist inspired monochromatic painting depicts an abstracted bound nude figure with arms behind his back and knees raised, suspended by rope from two posts. The work is initialed and dated 1980 in the lower right, and titled and dated by hand on the verso. It is presented in a white floating frame with attached hanging wire.

David Walker was an American artist who was most prolific during the 1970s and early 1980s. He was inspired by the German Expressionist movement and artists such as Kathe Kollwitz (1867 – 1945). Like many Expressionists, Walker focused on “fringe” subjects outside of mainstream culture. Keeping a sketchbook with him at all times, Walker was drawn to capturing the melancholy, isolation, and suffering of New York City life. Drawing and painting daily, Walker left over 300 works of art upon his death in the late 1980s.
