An antique edition of Johnson’s New Illustrated (Steel Plate) Family Atlas, with Physical Geography, and with Descriptions Geographical, Statistical and Historical, Including the Latest Federal Census, A Geographical Index, and a Chronological History of the Civil War in America; by Richard Swainson Fisher, M.D. This edition was published by Johnson & Ward, No. 113 Fulton Street, New York with an 1864 copyright date. The illustrative maps are single and double page with hand coloring. The spine and corner caps are leather with green cloth covered boards. Applied features include five gilt Art Nouveau decorated bands to spine and imprinted lettering; marbelized interior endpapers and text edges. This oversize volume gives a comprehensive view of the world prior to 1865.
