Oil Painting Attributed to David Walker "Tubular Forms"

Item Details

An oil painting on canvas, titled Tubular Forms, attributed to American artist David Walker (c. 1950-c. 1980). This piece uses a grayish palette of yellow, pink, and blue to depict a collection of column-like shapes on a striped ground. The unframed work does not include a signature but is titled and dated ‘1-22-83’ to its verso.

David Walker was an American artist who was most prolific during the 1970s and early 1980s. He was inspired by the German Expressionist movement and artists such as Kathe Kollwitz (1867 – 1945). Like many Expressionists, Walker focused on “fringe” subjects outside of mainstream culture. Keeping a sketchbook with him at all times, Walker was drawn to capturing the melancholy, isolation, and suffering of New York City life. Drawing and painting daily, Walker left over 300 works of art upon his death in the late 1980s.
