A signed 1971 limited edition color lithograph designed by renowned German-American Pop artist Peter Max (born 1937), titled Bursting Into Infinity. This piece highlights the psychedelic colors and patterns that Max is known for. Marked to the bottom left side of the painting: 62/100. Artist signature is signed and dated in pencil to the lower right. This piece is presented under glass with soft white mat and silver toned frame with wire to the verso for hanging.
Max received his formal art education in the 1950s at the Art Students League of New York in Manhattan, where he studied anatomy, figure drawing and composition under the tutelage of Frank J. Reilly. Max began his career in illustration and graphic arts by creating collage-based works using elements taken from antique photographs. His interest in astronomy led to his self-described “Cosmic ’60s” period, where his art became a symbol of the counterculture with its flamboyant use of bright rainbow colors and psychedelic images.
