A hand-knotted Turkish Kayseri silk accent rug. The Turkish town of Kayseri is on the silk trading route and the designs of the rugs produced there show the influence of Persian carpets. This finely knotted rug has been knotted on a silk warp with threads in shades of cerulean, celadon, robin’s egg blue, white, ochre, mustard, blush, persimmon, black, and deep brown. The brilliant cerulean field is densely populated with floral and foliage motifs. The compound border features a pair of carnation and meander guard borders flanking a primary border with a white background infilled with stylized floral palmettes and scrolling leaves and vines. There is fringe to each end and the rug is tagged to the reverse.
