Hmong Paj Ntaub Belt in Frame
Item Details
A paj ntaub, or “flower cloth”, style textile belt from the Hmong culture located in Southern China, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar. This piece features the applique process of embroidery to create the traditional spiral patterns of these textiles along with patchwork stripes of ribbons, ric rac, and other trims. The piece is formed from five bands of this embellished fabric, one horizontal and four hanging vertically from it. The piece is unmarked and presented with a mat, under glass, and in a black frame with wire to the verso for hanging.
Condition
- discoloration to textile, notably horizontal strip; nicks and scratches around the frame.
