Hand-Knotted Persian Heriz Area Rug
Item Details
A Persian Heriz area rug. This semi-rectilinear wool rug is hand-knotted in an abrashed, jewel-tone palette of ruby, sapphire, rose, sea green, cornsilk, cream, and midnight blue. It begins with a star medallion with four palmette points and deep, sea-green palmette pendants at top and bottom. The medallion rests on a ruby lozenge, which in turn rests on a sapphire-colored field with deep, rose and sea-green spandrels. The regions of the field are filled with stylized palmettes, leaves, flowers, vines, and geometric motifs. Framing the field are three borders, including a samovar-pattern main border over midnight blue. Selvedges are overcast in ruby, the rug finishing at each end with short, unbound, ivory wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
