Palace-Sized Hand-Knotted Persian Sultanabad Area Rug

A palace-sized Persian area rug. This wool rug is finely hand-knotted in a palette of burgundy, camel, cornsilk, sage, and taupe. It features a Sultanabad design incorporating large-scale, crisply rendered palmettes amid smaller palmettes, flowers, cloudband leaf motifs, lancet leaves, and vines over a burgundy field. The field is framed by four borders, including a wide herati main border grounded in camel and filled with ornate palmettes and hibiscus flowerheads. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short white kilim skirts and long white cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
