An antique 1879 oil painting on canvas titled The Tender Grace of a Day That is Dead by listed artist Mary W. McLain. This carefully-rendered piece depicts a woman in a black dress gazing out of a window toward a yellow sunset, one arm resting on the pane in front of her. The painting is signed to its lower right corner and is titled to the lower edge of the gold tone frame, which has molded foliate detailing around its perimeter. There is a wire to the verso of the piece for framing.

- mild discoloration to painting; craquelure present to entire painting; minor wear to frame and verso.
