1853 Catwright, Hirons & Woodward Sterling Silver and Glass Baskets
Item Details
A set of two 1853 Cartwright, Hirons & Woodward ornate sterling silver baskets with glass inserts. The matching baskets have an ornate open arabesque design with hinged gadrooned handles and gadrooned borders on the pedestal bases. Each basket supports an oval milk glass bowl insert. On the base, each piece has the makers mark of ‘CH & W’ in a shield with a lion for the sterling purity, a Birmingham anchor city mark, and the date mark for 1853. The total approximate weight of the two baskets, excluding the glass inserts, is 3.625 ozt.
Condition
- some surface wear with faint markings and minimal tarnishing especially to the base.
