A hand-colored wood engraving on paper of A Candy-Pulling Party in Boston after a sketch made by E.R. Morse for Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper. This print, dated September 28, 1878, depicts a group of figures standing in a shadowy room, a man in an apron twisting a large strand of candy into the air just in front of him. The piece is marked ‘Massachusetts – A Delightful Diversion for the Fall and Winter Months – A Candy-Pulling Party in Boston – From a Sketch by E.R. Morse – See Page 54’ to its lower margin, and is dated and marked ‘Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper’ along its left margin. This piece is double-matted under glass in a molded gold tone frame with a wire and a label identifying the piece as a wood engraving to its verso.
