Item Details
A Persian Nain area rug. This wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of powder blue, midnight blue, azure, cerulean, cream, and pale taupe. It begins with an ogival medallion grounded in cream, powder blue, and taupe, with double pendants at top and bottom. The medallion rests on a cream-colored field, which is filled with crisply rendered flowers of different types, palmettes, lancet leaves, and vines, elements that continue both in the spandrels and in the medallion. Framing the field are three borders, including an ornate herati main border featuring meandering vines and palmettes over pale taupe. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with long ivory cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
