Hand-Knotted Persian Koliai Area Rug
Item Details
A Persian Koliai area rug. This wool rug, attributed to Sorani Kurd weavers, is hand-knotted in an abrashed palette of deep rose, cream, mocha, and pale blues. It begins with a stepped diamond medallion grounded in cream and filled with four sprays of geometric flowers. The medallion rests on a deep rose field, which features a stylized, rectilinear herati pattern with images of small birds tucked into the spaces where the linework has been intentionally broken. Stepped spandrels are grounded in cream. The field is framed by three borders, including a main border featuring a boxed pattern of stylized oak leaves alternating with concentric diamonds. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing with short cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
