An oil painting of an anthropomorphized dog signed by artist J. G. Clanney. This painting depicts the head of a Boston Terrier attached to a regal, circa 17th century soldier adorned in a decorated uniform, holding a cutlass and helmet. The figure stands on a dirt mound shrouded in darkness, which overlooks a vast landscape with a thick plumage of smoke seen to the distance. To the lower right corner of the composition is a painted signature. The painting is presented in a gold tone wooden frame featuring moulded palmette and groove patterning with hanging wire to the verso.

- small area of paint loss to right of head; gold paint scuff mark at upper edge of painting; surface wear to frame; upper right corner has chip; edges have chips with paint loss.
