A hand-knotted Akstafa wool area rug. This pictorial rug is rendered in a palette of ecru, indigo, rust, celadon, cornsilk, sepia, and sky blue. The ecru colored field features three octagonal medallions infilled with kochak cross motifs, along with an abundance of animal motifs including birds, insects, and camels, as well as people, tree of life, and other geometric motifs. Framing the field is a main rust colored peacock border, with guard borders in a leaf and blossom pattern and geometric patterns. Finishing the rug are multiple overcast selvedges and an extremely short natural warp fringe to the ends. Unlabeled.
