Large Hand-Knotted Central Asian Area Rug

A large central Asian area rug. This supple wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of cream, blush, cinnamon, celadon, and shades of blue. It begins with a central, fringed medallion grounded in cinnamon and celadon over a cream-colored field. The field is populated with a constellation of symmetrically arranged birds, hooked diamonds, polygonal medallions, flowerheads, and other geometric motifs. Framing the field are eight borders, including a highlight stylized herati main border grounded in blush and filled with meandering palmettes and abstract vinework. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with ivory cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
