Offset Lithograph After Italian Renaissance Painting "View of an Ideal City"

Item Details

Not Signed

An offset lithograph on paper titled View of an Ideal City after a painting attributed to Italian Renaissance artist Fra Carnavale (1420/25 – 1484). This work, originally painted circa 1480/84, depicts an imagined ideal city with an expansive view of a marble paved piazza with a central fountain and Roman triumphal arch and amphitheater in the background next to an octagonal building inspired by the Baptistery in Florence, Italy. The piece is unsigned and its attribution is disputed, but commonly credited to Fra Carnavale. There is a printed label to the verso with information about the piece, which is now housed in The Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, Maryland. The print is presented behind a blue mat, behind glass, in a wooden frame with a hanging wire to the verso.
