A landscape watercolor on paper of a stream attributed to British draughtsman George Sherpherd (1784-1862). To the left is a wall of mountainous forms stretching high into the blue sky above. Below is a calm stream and surrounding foliage with two figures fishing in the water. The work is unsigned. Presented under glass with a white matting and housed in a beveled, gilt wood frame.
Shepard was born in England but spent time in France until 1793 at the outbreak of the Great French War. He was awarded a silver palette by the Society of Arts in 1803 and 1804. He was also on of the founding members of the resurrected New Society of Painters in Watercolours in 1831.
