Hand-Painted East Asian Composition on Batik Fabric
Item Details
An East Asian painting on fabric. The ground textile has been dyed with a wax resist to create a texture of fine lines and cracks across the piece, over which an artist has hand-painted an old man presenting a scroll while standing on a thin stone bridge beneath a tree. It is marked with East Asian text to the right side. The piece is presented with a fabric border in a painted black wood frame that is strung to the verso for hanging.

- edge wear and chips to frame; accretion to surface; tonal variation in textile; stains and discoloration to border; stains and tears to paper backing.
