William Benecke Oil Painting of an Arched Portico

A signed oil painting on canvas of an arched portico by listed artist William Benecke (American, 1934 – 2001). Signed by hand to the lower right, the painting depicts arches sitting on top of Doric columns surrounding a portico filled with potted plants. The painting is presented mounted on a fabric backing in a gold tone gesso and wood frame with an acanthus leaf design. An ink marking is present to the verso reading ‘Benecke Christmas Card Dec 1972’. No hanging hardware is present to the frame. Benecke studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and is best known for his landscape and figure paintings.

- edge wear to frame; residue to surface; unstretched canvas has been cut and mounted to backing.
