F. Petitjean Hand-Colored Photogravure After Meissonier's "Chess Players"

An early 20th-century hand-colored photogravure on paper by F. Petitjean after Chess Players by well-listed French artist Jean-Louis-Ernest Meissonier (1815 – 1891). The piece depicts an early 19th-century scene with figures deep in concentration while playing a game of chess in a drawing room setting. The print is initialed ‘M’ in plate to the lower right and signed ‘F. Petitjean’ below. It is double-matted in black and off-white and presented under glass in a black and gold tone wooden frame with hanging wire mounted to the verso.

Condition

- slight discoloration to paper with age; minor scuffing, dust and edge wear to frame.
