Antique English Victorian Chippendale Style Secretary Desk

Item Details

An antique English Victorian Chippendale style secretary desk. This two piece late 19th century mahogany interpretation of a Chippendale secretary desk is combined with the tastes of the late Victorians, such as the cloth upholstered back, open what-not shelves, the open shelf at the top, and the enclosed beveled glass cabinet. The central acanthus carved door folds downward to form a writing surface and reveals three arched pigeon holes and two small drawers each with turned knobs, on the left side of the fold down door are two open arched pigeon holes over a drawer and on the right is one large arched pigeon hole over a drawer. At bottom is a central drawer flanked by two smaller drawers over a carved and shaped apron between two cabriole legs on modified claw and ball feet. The upper cabinet is surmounted by a carved backsplash on a deep shelf over the glazed cabinet flanked by the dual level what-not shelves, the corner supports being reeded columns terminating in lion’s paw feet atop the desk. Unmarked.
