Vintage Thonet Style Bentwood Bistro Chairs
Item Details
A pair of vintage bentwood bistro chairs in the style of Michael Thonet, the 1859 designer of the much immitated No. 14 Chair. Each has a simple scrolled design of dark hardwood to the back, a hand-caned (in the hole) circular seat, and is marked with embossed “MADE IN ROMANIA” to the underside of the seat rim and unreadable circular black stamp to inside of seat rim. Later addition green vinyl cushioned seats, dated 10-7-83 to underside, are included.
Condition
- surface marks and condition consistent with age and wear
- some splitting of wood grain at sharp curves of back rail
- seat caning intact; slight damage from later addition of vinyl seat attachment
- hardware for re-installation of seat cushions included
