Vintage Hand-Knotted Persian Sarouk Area Rug

A hand-knotted Persian Sarouk area rug. This wool rug features a rectilinear design in a palette of cranberry, pink, electric blue, teal, and black. It begins with a multilobed star medallion filled with herati diamonds, geometric florets, and palmettes. The medallion rests on a cranberry-colored herati field, the elements of which are smaller than those in the medallion or spandrels. Framing the field is a single border, featuring a _meandering-floral pattern over cranberry. Selvedges are overcast in blue, the rug finishing at each end with short cotton warp fringe. Blue weft threads are visible on the underside. The rug is labeled on the reverse.
