Antique Victorian British Infantry Sword

Item Details

An antique Victorian British infantry sword. This sword, forged between 1876 and 1895, features a thin, straight blade typical of infantry officer swords of the time, with Queen Victoria’s royal cypher etched to the blade. The maker’s mark on the ricasso reads ‘E. Thurkle, Soho, London’ and is backed by a proof mark. The grip is of gray sharkskin with brass coil; the brass backplate and pommel lead to a Gothic guard with the Queen’s cypher set into the counterguard. The brown leather scabbard has a silver-toned throat, brace, and chape.
