A signed limited edition artist’s proof aquatint etching on paper titled Soirée Printanière by well-listed Japanese-born artist Shoichi Hasegawa (b. 1929). Portrayed with intricate white delineations against a background filled with splotches of cool colors, this abstract work features a cityscape with various buildings underneath a glowing moon. The work is signed by hand in graphite to the lower right. It is titled to the lower center, marked ‘E.A.’ and numbered 19 out of an edition of 40 in Roman numerals to the lower left. The composition is presented under glass with dark blue matting, and housed in a silver-tone wood frame.

Born in Japan, Shoichi Hasegawa is a contemporary artist known for his painting and printmaking often featuring lyrical delineations and pastel palettes. He studied at the Kokuga Institute in Kyoto, then moved to Paris in 1961 where he worked at Atelier 17 with British artist Stanley William Hayter. His work has been collected by renowned institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Museum Fuji in Tokyo, among others.
