A mixed media composition on paper of a woman and a bird by William Fredericksen (Norway; 1914 – 2010), created in 1956. Depicted is a woman in a teal dress and an elaborate fruit hat holding a bird on the back of her hand. She stands in a linear room with a door and a bowl of fruit on a table in the background. Artist’s signature present to lower right corner of backing paper. Presented as loose work with paper backing and without frame.
Born in Norway in 1914, William Fredericksen is most known for his bright and bold geometric abstracts and figurative crayon compositions. He studied art at the American Academy of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Institute of Design. At the Art Institute, Fredericksen was taught by esteemed Bauhaus masters László Moholy-Nagy and Alexander Archipenko. Fredericksen developed detailed collages representing authentic pieces of old sailing ships, bridges, and colored collages. Fredericksen has had several one man shows at the Emmerick Gallery, N.Y., the Silvermine Annuals and the Jasper Rand Gallery.
