Bill Schiffer Original 1977 Oil Painting of Expressionist Forms

Item Details

An original 1977 abstract oil painting on board by contemporary New York artist Bill Schiffer. This expressive composition depicts urgent brush strokes of greys and tans with vibrant pops of purple and bright red against a murky blue background. The center of the composition is a small black square that is cut away and slightly recessed from the rest of the work. The painting is signed in graphite to the verso ‘Bill Schiffer 1977’. It is presented unframed.

Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980’s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
