Large Antique Hand-Knotted Persian Sarouk Area Rug
Item Details
A large antique Persian Sarouk area rug. This wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of cherry, azure, cream, midnight blue, and pink. It features a classic Sarouk design beginning with a quatrefoil, elaborate floral medallion in the center of a cherry-colored field. The field is densely populated with crisply rendered sprays of flowers, vases, mixed floral bouquets, palmettes, floral fans, and scrolling lancet leaves. Framing the field are six borders, including a densely floral herati main border over midnight blue, two herati minor borders over cream, and two meandering floral minor borders over azure. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with ivory wool warp fringe. Blue weft threads are visible on the underside. The rug is unlabeled.
