A set of four hand-colored intaglio prints on paper after 17th-century engravings by listed French artist François Chauveau (1613 – 1676). The works depict riders and their horses in elaborate ceremonial costumes. Included are Tympanistes, Tubicen, Americani; Armiger, Ephebus, Americani; Anguienus Dux, Indorum Rex; and Castrorum Præfectus Americanus. The prints are presented under glass in matching gold tone wooden and gesso frames with off-white liners and gold tone fillets, each fitted with hanging wire to the verso.
Condition
- mild discoloration to paper; minor edge wear to frames.
