A semi-antique Chinese Nichols Deco area rug. This wool rug is hand-knotted in a vibrant palette of terracotta, midnight blue, royal blue, violet, and sage. It begins with three rondelles grounded in royal blue and filled with hibiscus-like flowers and vines in shades of purple, peach, pink, and sage, the flowers spilling over the edges of the rondelles into an open terracotta field. The field is framed by three borders. These include an inner guard border of royal blue and a primary border grounded in midnight blue and filled with flowers, vase forms, cloudband motifs, foliage, and pitchers, the flowers drifting occasionally into the inner border. The outer guard border is terracotta. Selvedges are overcast in white, the rug finishing at each end with short wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
