Antique French Provincial Carved Oak Vaisselier, Probably Brittany

Item Details

An antique French provincial carved oak vaisselier, probably Brittany, circa 19th century. The two-piece case features an upper section with a flared cornice above a carved surround enclosing four shelves with pierced and carved galleries. Two of the galleries are carved with floral branches, one of which is centered by a heart motif, while the other two consist of arched balustrades. The lower section has a projecting, rectangular top with molded edges over paneled sides. There is a carved frieze and two blind-paneled doors, with stylized roundels and birds, opening to two adjustable shelves. The doors are fitted with pierced, scrolled escutcheon plates and fiche hinges while the entire piece is accented by brass tacks. The vaisselier rises on stile legs ending in scrolled, front feet.
