Item Details
A vintage Chippendale style mahogany high chest by Councill Craftsman. The two-piece case features an upper section with a broken-arch pediment centered by a cartouche finial and flanked by a pair of flame-and-urn finials. The pediment is further embellished with rosette terminals and scrolled-tendril moldings. Directly below are five rows of machine-dovetailed drawers above a strip of mid-molding. The lower section has one long drawer over three aligned, short drawers, the center of which is decorated with a molded shell and scrolled-foliate motifs. The drawer fronts of both sections are fitted with pierced, brass tone pulls and escutcheons and flanked by reeded, quarter columns. A scrolled and molded front skirt centers the cabriole legs, which are carved with acanthus leaves and rise on ball-and-claw feet. One drawer interior retains a brass tone, manufacturer’s plaque.
