Item Details
An original 1873 oil painting on academy board titled A Gypsy Girl by well-listed English artist David Bates (1840 – 1921). The work depicts a rolling landscape through which a woman travels by foot, accompanied by a donkey and dog. The painting is signed and dated in paint by the artist to the lower left corner. A hand-written label to the verso provides the title. Housed in a gilt and gesso frame.
Condition
- minor wear to the frame including areas of missing gesso, concentrated in the corners; minor craquelure, concentrated along the lower edge of the composition; the composition and signature are clean under UV light.
