An oil painting on canvas cottage landscape by Western painter Robert Ottokar Lindneux (American, 1871-1970), executed in 1910. Depicted is a small cottage in a prairie land surrounded by rich shrubbery, green grass, and budding trees. A pale river runs along the front of the scene. Signed and dated to the lower right.
Orphaned at a young age, Lindneux lived with his Aunt in New York where he received private tutoring and began studying art. He later would travel abroad to study at the National Academy in Düsseldorf, Germany, under Benjamin Vautie, at École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and with Franz Stuck at the Academy in Munich. He eventually found himself out West traveling and painting throughout Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota and Montana and settling in Denver. He is remembered for his western scenes and portraits of his friend, Buffalo Bill.
