Anthony Hochstein Mid-19th-Century Oil Painting on Canvas Landscape with Foxes

An antique mid-19th-century original oil painting on canvas of a landscape scene with foxes by listed Bavarian-born portrait and genre painter Anthony Hochstein (Bavaria/Pennsylvania; 1823 – 1872). A family of foxes gathers around a freshly killed chicken in a woodland landscape. Artist signature is signed in paint to the lower left on a face of a rendered boulder. The painting is presented in a gilt and gesso wood frame with ornate acanthus moulding and deep coved moulding.
Condition
- corners of the frame are repaired and repainted; scratches and marks throughout; minor craquelure present throughout.
