18th Century Mechanical Fleam

Item Details

An antique brass and steel medical device for blood-letting, called a fleam or scarificator. In the 18th & 19th centuries, blood-letting was a accepted medical practice, and this was the tool a doctor or surgeon would use. It is unsigned except for the monogram E.E., which was likely the doctors initials. This example has 16 blades that come out and retract when the trigger is pulled and released. Mechanism is sticky but functional.
