A hand-knotted Persian Hamadan area rug. This wool rug features a Sarouk-style field with subtly and artfully irregular details and asymmetries in a generally symmetrical design. Rendered in an abrashed, bold palette of scarlet, ivory, indigo, magenta, aqua, ochre, midnight blue, and sand, the design begins with an ivory diamond pendant medallion over a scarlet field. The field is filled with discrete set pieces depicting vases and floral sprays, offset by midnight blue, contoured spandrels. Framing the field is a stylized herati main border and a pair of running water minor borders. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing with short, cotton warp fringe to the ends. Unlabeled.
