Hand Colored Halftone Print After Henry Alken's "The Winning Post"

A hand-colored halftone print on paper titled The Winning Post after an 1871 aquatint by W. Summers after a painting by listed British artist Henry Alken (1810 – 1894). The piece depicts a late 19th-century horse racing scene with hand-embellished accents in green, blue, yellow, red, orange, brown and pink. The print is signed in plate to the lower right and includes title and artist information printed in plate along the lower margin. It is matted in cream and presented under glass in a black and gold tone wooden frame with hanging wire mounted to the verso.

Condition

- discoloration to print and matting; moisture damage along right side of matting and print; print and matting are off-center and not fully secure inside frame; edge wear, scuffing, nicks and loose joints to frame; tears and moisture stains to frame’s backing paper.
