Hand-Knotted Chinese "Aubusson" Wool Area Rug

A large hand-knotted Chinese Aubusson wool area rug. The rug has been worked in a palette of faded peach, salmon, rose, taupe, sage green, olive, dove gray, and allspice. It features a circular central medallion infilled with a floral design that is surrounded by floral borders. The rest of the field is infilled with large oval wreath and floral motifs at each corner and smaller floral motifs populating the empty spaces. The borders feature enlarged floral motifs and acanthus leaf scrolls worked in the same palette. The rug has overcast edges and short woven skirts with fringe at each end. Tagged to reverse.
