An original oil painting on canvas titled Farm, Sheep Landscape by well-listed American Scene painter and WPA muralist Emerson Burkhart (Ohio; 1905 – 1969), circa 1960. In this scene, a solitary figure stands in yellow and red against verdant green interrupted by a harvested corn field. Sheep graze peacefully between fields with a silent, gray copse of trees holding back the moving sky in hues of gray, white, blue and green with hints of yellow beneath. This bright painting is signed by the artist in red to the lower right hand side and presented in a classic gilt wooden frame.
Burkhart’s works are represented in the permanent collections of Ohio Historical Society; Butler Institute of American Art; National Portrait Gallery;
Springfield Museum of Art; and The Columbus Museum of Art, Ohio; among many others.
