Antique American Classical Walnut Side Chairs, Circa 1815-1840

Item Details

A group of four antique American Classical walnut side chairs, circa 1815-1840. The frames feature shaped, figured crests above scalloped, horizontal slats and padded, shield-shaped seats. The seats are upholstered in red fabric with gold tone bees and the chairs rise on saber legs centered by bowed, front aprons. They are unmarked by the maker.

Condition

- refinished with scattered surface marks, veneer chips, and small putty repairs; two chairs with repaired breaks to stiles behind crests, one of which has a lateral cutout/loss; three chairs with repairs to front legs; one chair with repaired breaks to crest where it attaches to stiles; one chair with a loose/unsecured cushioned seat; stains to upholstery; upholstery is later; some later glue blocks to undersides; other possible repairs/imperfections.
