Item Details
A fourteen piece collection of Japanese moriage dragonware porcelain serveware. Moriage is a type of decoration created by applying designs in relief to the surface of a piece, much like piping frosting onto a cake. A popular design created with this method is a dragon or dragonware, which is featured here. These pieces show a winged, open mouthed white dragon on a matte grey and yellow ground with raised detail to the rims. The interiors of the teacups feature a glossy amber glaze and some pieces have gilded detail. Included in this group is a teapot, four teacups and saucers, four plates and a serving platter. These items are marked to the base ‘Hand Painted Japan’ and bear the mark of Moriyama Mori-machi, dated to 1926-1929.
